Florence Johnson

Florence was born in the Town of Butternuts on August 8, 1926 the daughter of Frederick and Jennie (Barber) Coon. She grew up in the Mt. Upton area where she attended and graduated from the Mt. Upton School. In her early working career she worked at the Mt. Upton Hotel where she waited on tables and made their pies. Florence then stayed at home for a short time to begin raising her family but eventually decided to go back to work. Over the years she worked for the Norwich Knitting Mill, the Sutton Store in Mt. Upton, worked as a waitress, the Norwich Shoe Company and eventually the Norwich Rehabilitation Center for a few years.

In her leisure time she enjoyed her cooking and baking and bowling for both the Norwich Bowling Center and the Family Recreation Center.

Needless to say, Florence was not afraid to work, an inspiration to her family and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Florence is survived by her daughter Sherry Pittman of Norwich and her son and daughter-in-law Larry ( Joe) and his wife Nancy of Mt. Upton along with nieces and nephews.

Florence was predeceased by her husband William in 1991 and her brother Richard Coon.

A funeral service for Florence will be held on Monday, November 6, at Noon from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Howard will officiate. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery of Mt. Upton.

Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at Noon.
