Winona was born on September 2nd, 1930 to John and Mary Dykes, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was the sixth of seven children and was the last surviving sibling. She was a 1948 graduate who soon after traveled the country. She lived in several places including Caifornia, Florida, New Jersey, and Brooklyn, and in the eighties, moved to Upstate New York, while still traveling to many places including her favorite destination, the Virgin Islands, several times. She pursued a career at Duratest where she was a supervisor to hundreds of employees and after thirty years of dedication to the company she went on to be a nurses aide, where she acquired numerous letters of recommendation because of her loyalty, kindness, and caring heart.
She had a love for all animals, especially chihuahuas which she raised for more than forty years. She loved to sew and wore many of the clothes she made. She was known for the classy outfits she wore and the way she carried herself through her eighties as the beautiful woman she was in the forties and all through her life. Winona had a love for music. She loved to dance and belonged to several clubs of ball room dancing. She adored her record player which she played all the time filling her home with tunes from Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Elvis, especially around the holidays, where she continued to dance with her great-granddaughters. She loved to be hostess and had many gatherings with family and friends where she enjoyed cooking and especially baking. She was a mother, a sister, and a best friend, never caring if someone needed her company early in the morning or her advice late at night.
Words cannot express the woman Winona was. Sincere, strong, full of personality and humor, and witty to name a few. She truly touched everyone that had the opportunity to know her and be in her life, especially her family.
Winona was predeceased by her son Gary Boscio. She is survived by her daughter Carole Moscato, her granddaughter, Crystle Moscato, grandson, Michael T. Moscato, her great-granddaughters, Tessi and Hadley, her longtime companion, Frank Sisco, and many nieces, nephews and friends. A graveside service will be held for Winona at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Willcox Cemetery, 530 County Road 14 Earlville, with Pastor Jen Westervelt officiating, followed by a celebration of her life.
