Lester C. Blackman, 89, of Preston passed away at his home surrounded by his family. Lester was born to the late William and Ceta (Cob) Blackman, March 23, 1929, in Norwich, New York. Lester married Bonnie Loomis on November 3rd, 1956. Lester and Bonnie lived together in Preston. Together they raised two children. Lester leaves his legacy with his two children: Rod and Barb Blackman, and Debbie and Jim Hubbard. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Bobbie Jo Bush, Nicky and Peter Weeks, Ashley and Cody Hubbard, and Tiffanee Hubbard, great grandchildren: Alex, Zach, Quryn, Madison, Kaydence, Molly, Jason, and Blake. Lester also leaves three of his siblings behind: June Manwarren, Grace Franklin , and Leslie Blackman. Lester also leaves many nieces and nephews behind. Lester served his country in the United States Army from 1957-1959. After the returning home, Lester began working for Crane Silo. Over the years, he also worked at O.W. Hubbels, and Ferraro Striping. In his spare time Lester enjoyed acquiring and repairing old Allis Chalmers tractors, garage sales and gardening. Lester always had a special place in his heart for his dog Peanut who predeceased him. Lester was a longtime member of the Local 106 Operating Engineers Union. Lester was predeceased by his wife Bonnie (Loomis) Blackman, Siblings: Doris Gifford, Fred Blackman, Helen Markham, Carl Blackman, Art Blackman, Leonard Blackman, Mert Horton, In-Laws: Bill and Deloris Loomis, and Juanita Crandall. A memorial service for him will be held at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich on Monday July 16th, beginning at 1:00 pm with Pastor Rachel Morse officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 pm until the time of the service.
