Son of the late Chester K. and Ann E. (Markt) Waite. Loving father of Michael Waite of Westboro and Aaron Waite of Marlboro. Beloved brother of Deborah Hobden and her husband Keith of Dracut. Cherished Uncle and friend of Matthew Lavigne and Ali Fagundes of Hudson, NH and Andrea Lavigne of Dracut. Former spouse and dear friend of Mary Jane Waite of Waltham.
If you were lucky enough to meet Chester (Ted, The Captain) Waite, chances are you will never forget him. He was the ultimate renaissance man and had the stories to prove it. He was well-read and an unmatched conversationalist. If you asked him about growing up in Canton, his Wake Forest football championship ring, camping out at Woodstock, or his time as a handyman, you would get a glimpse into his unusually rich life story. He was a life-long athlete and competitor, playing the position of offensive lineman for Wake Forrest on a full scholarship, and was an avid fan of Boston’s home sports teams.
His passion for sports was second only to his deep love of music. The musical catalogue he kept in his brain was vast, spanning many decades and genres. One of his favorite past times was listening to great music with his friends and family. He was a gentle giant with a heart of gold. Ted will be profoundly missed by those who love him, but we know he is at peace (in the words of Tom Petty) “In a room at the top of the world tonight."
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 15th from 1:00PM-2:30PM in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, Norwood followed by a prayer service at 2:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a memorial donation to the American Liver Foundation New England Chapter, 188 Needham Street, Suite 240, Newton, MA 02461.
