Eugene J. Doherty

DOHERTY, Eugene J., 90, of Norwood, passed away March 16, 2015. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Johanna M. (Quill) Doherty. Gene was the beloved husband of Theresa M. (O’Brien) Doherty of Norwood; the loving father of Michael Doherty and his wife, Kathie of Belmont, Elaine Sullivan of Watertown, Mary Doherty of Maine, Judith and her husband, William of Sterling, Patricia Goodwin and her husband, Kelly of Maine, and Edward Doherty and his wife Susan of S. Natick; the brother of the late Edward, Jr. and James Doherty and Eleanor Haley; the cherished grandfather of Laura, Kevin, Brian, Julie, Alison, Amy, Toni, Jackie, Marina, Myles, Jack and Julia; and the uncle of many nieces and nephews. Gene served in the Navy during WWII and worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, DPW as a civil engineer for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1986. He was a Norwood Town meeting member for nearly 50 years, an active member at St. Timothy Church, and belonged to Norwood Knights of Columbus. Gene’s funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19, at 9:00 AM at the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., NORWOOD, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols St., Norwood. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 18, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s memory to the Christian Services Fund at St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols St., Norwood, MA 02062.
