Eunice Roberta Wright, age 91, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, MA. Born June 7, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, she is predeceased by her parents, James and Roberta Ferrell
Eunice was the fifth of seven children. After the passing of her mom, Eunice and her baby sister, Beulah, moved to Donora, PA, to live with their Uncle and Aunt Fred and Ada Dillard. While in Pennsylvania, Eunice attended Donora Elementary and Junior High School. At the age of 14, she and her baby sister, Beulah, moved to Lynchburg, VA to live with their father.
At the age of 18 she married Reidman Wright and had 2 children, Gloria Jean and Randy. While living in Donora, Eunice was a loving mother and homemaker. Eunice was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. While raising her children, Eunice worked as a housekeeper and was also an active member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. In 1967, Eunice moved to Boston, MA where she worked as a dietary supervisor at Boston City Hospital. When her father fell ill, she returned to Lynchburg, VA. to help care for him. There they lived together until he passed in 1979. She stayed in Lynchburg until she retired from Lynchburg General Hospital. She then relocated to Washington D.C to be near her son, Randy. While in D.C., she joined the Grandparents Association, where she enjoyed working with handicapped children for many years. Eventually she returned to Boston to be near her baby sister, Beulah, and daughter, Gloria Jean. While living in Boston she continued to work with the Grandparents Association, she also joined the Mass Senior Action Council, and she became a member of Ebenezer Baptist church for many years. Later she joined Holy Tabernacle church of Brockton where her daughter is a member.
Eunice loved to play dominoes, do crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader. She believed in family and giving a helping hand where ever it was needed to whoever needed it.
Eunice is predeceased by her son, Edward (Randy) Wright, her brothers, Monroe Wilson, Wrenwood Wilson, Roy Ferrell, Hayward Wilson, and her sister, Geneva Walton Hairston. Eunice is survived by her daughter, Gloria Jean Anderson-Armstrong, her sister, Beaulah L. Caines, six grandchildren, Krystal Wright, LaDonna Glenn, Kathy (Nikki) Goodwyn, Shawn (David) Wright, Brooke Anderson-Williams, and Sterling Warren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8th from 6:00-7:00pm at the Holy Tabernacle Church, 861 Main Street, Brockton, followed by a funeral service at 7:00pm. Entombment will take place at a later date in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Eunice R. Wright may be made to the St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
