Dr. Stephen Steve Louis Carbone Jr.

Carbone, Stephen L., D.M.D., 91, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at his home in Norwood surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boothbay Harbor, ME, March 15, 1919, he was the son of the late Stephen L. and Adelaide (Rumazza) Carbone.

He attended Bowdoin College and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Harvard University School of Dental Medicine. He served as a Lieutentant Commander in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. Dr. Carbone was a 64 year resident of Norwood and practiced dentistry there for 48 years. He enjoyed gardening and cooking. A daily communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Norwood, he was a member of the Norwood Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus and its Bowling League. He was honored with the Paul Harris Rotary Foundation Award by Rotary International in 2006

The widower of Ursula (Gately) who passed October 10, 1992, he is survived by his children, Stephen L. Carbone, III of Calistoga, CA, Elizabeth Carbone of Norwood, Marybeth Curran of West Hyannisport, Joseph and wife Arleen Carbone of S. Deerfield, Ann M. Cirillo of Norwood, Ursula and husband Patrick Meade of Pope Valley, CA, and Susan and husband Jeff Beattie of Hyde Park, VT; grandchildren, Michael and his wife Ellen Curran, Daniel and Christopher Meade, Elizabeth and Marie Carbone, Teresa and Juliana Cirillo, and Maria and Jameson Beattie; and sisters, Josephine Beckwith of Waterville, ME and Ernestine Fossa of Dexter, ME. He was also the brother of the late Frank, Fred and Romolo Carbone and Florence Giles.

Family and friends may visit on Monday, July 12 from 4-8 p.m. at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., Norwood, MA 02062. His funeral will begin from the funeral home on Tuesday, July 13 at 8:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Washington St., Norwood. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Roslindale.
