

On September 6, 2016, Andrew A. Tyrie, Jr. went home to be with Our Lord, Jesus Christ; beloved husband of the late Myrtle A. Tyrie (nee Morningstern); devoted father of Lana Pass and husband Ralph, Janis Savage and husband Sheldon Bey, Donald Tyrie and wife Leah; loving grandfather of Kimberley Pass, Rick Pass and wife Heather, Kelly Savage and husband Sharad Goel, Anna Park and husband Rob, Sean Tyrie and wife Kaity, Matt Tyrie and wife Paige; cherished great-grandfather of Ian and Kaelynn Pass, Odin Pass, Henry and Julia Park, Reagan Tyrie.
Andy was born in Baltimore living on Clarence Avenue near Clifton Park until his family moved to the East Falls area of Philadelphia when he was 9 years old. They moved back to the same home in Baltimore for Dad to complete his senior year of high school at City College. In March 1941, Andy began working for what became the C&P Telephone Company in Baltimore. He developed skills in this area of communications which led to his service in the US Army 39th Signal Company during WW II. He served our country from February 1943 until he returned from the war in January 1946. He landed on Normandy Beach several months after D Day and traveled through France, Germany, Belgium and Czechoslovakia during his service abroad. Upon return from the war, Andy returned to the Telephone Company where he progressed to management and finished his service with Verizon in 1982.
During his Philadelphia years, Andy met his future wife, Myrt. They stayed in touch following his move to Baltimore and were married before Dad entered the Army in December 1943.. Andy and Myrt began a family when Lana was born in 1947. Following the move to the Fullerton area, Janis joined her sister and then several years later Don completed the family.
Church and community service were always part of Andy's life. He was a deacon at Kenwood Presbyterian Church and Perry Hall United Methodist Church where he also served as a lay reader and communion assistant. Andy was active with the Parkville Kiwanis Club for decades including leading the local club and participating in the Interclub organization. Following his retirement from the telephone company, he enjoyed meeting with other retirees through the local Pioneer Club.
Relatives and friends will gather at Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc., 9705 Belair Rd., Nottingham MD 21236, on Friday, September 9, 2016, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Additional visitation will be held at Oak Crest Chapel on Saturday, September 10, 2016, 9-9:30 a.m., with a funeral service at 9:30 a.m. at Oak Crest Chapel. Interment Parkwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Perry Hall United Methodist Church, 9515 Belair Rd., Baltimore MD 21236 or Oak Crest Scholarship Fund, 8800 Walther Blvd., Baltimore MD 21234.
