

Lawrence was born in Baltimore to Lawrence Sr., and Ethel Ament on May 5, 1916.Lawrence Sr. was self-employed in an Ice delivery and moving business. As a boy Lawrence, Jr. participated in Scouting and in later years became a Senior Scout Leader. Lawrence served as a Baltimore City Fire Fighter, where he retired in 1976. He was a life member of the American Legion, and held the highest degree as a Mason for over 60 years. He was also a member of the 881 Rookery, a social group formed by remaining members of McCormick Post 188 of the American Legion. They supported brotherhood, family and tradition. He attended City College, and graduated in 1934. He served as a Sergeant in the Army and fought during WWII. He stepped onto Normandy Beach on day two of the invasion. When asked about the war, he said “I was one of the lucky ones…I came home.” Where in his spare time he had many hobbies such as, leather crafting, model railroading, ceramics, bowling, vegetable gardening and rose growing. He also enjoyed the sport of crabbing, fishing and boating on the Back River. In his later years he enjoyed playing Pinochle with the ladies in his neighborhood and Poker with family and friends. He married his love Marie Uebelacker in 1940, and they were blessed with two children; Lawrence, III, and Marge Zombro, and later was blessed with his grandchildren David E. Szyjka and his wife Kristin and Marcia R. Nystrom and her husband Torbjorn, and his cherished great-grandchildren Sofia and Stina Nystrom. After a wonderful life, Lawrence passed away on November 5, 2014 at the age of 98.
Relatives and friends may gather at Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc. 9705 Belair Rd. Nottingham, MD 21236 on Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM, where Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Interment Loudon Park Cemetery.
