

He was born on November 8, 1928 in the town of Kardamyla, on the island of Chios, Greece and at the age of 14 served in the Greek Navy as the youngest radio operator on a naval destroyer during WWII. In 1953, he arrived in the United States, settling for a short time in Detroit, Michigan, and through an arranged marriage found “his Lela.” In 1961, Markos and his family settled in Novato, CA, bringing with them many members of their extended families.
A respected businessman and philanthropist, he co-founded a successful family business- Markos Painting Co., Inc., the charitable organization- Chian Society of California Agia Markella, and was a founding member of The Nativity of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in Novato.
Markos is survived by his loving children, Irene (Oscar) Sandoval, Angie (Tom) Kozas, and Nick (Ellen) Perivolaris; sisters, Paraskevi (George) Catel and Antonia (Antonios) Touras; brother, George (Sharon) Perivolaris; and numerous nieces, nephews and Goddaughters. He was a loving Papou to six grandchildren, George Zahariudakis, Stella (Niko) Bekris, Anna and Nonda Kozas, and Marko and Lela Perivolaris, who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 51 years, Zambela Perivolaris, and by his parents, Nicholas & Erene Perivolaris.
Services have been held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Markos’ memory to the National Kidney Foundation or to the Nativity of Christ Greek Orthodox Church, 1110 Highland Drive, Novato, CA 94949.
