Jimmy graduated from Stagg High School and lived a life full of kindness, connection, and simple joys. Born with special needs, he approached the world with a pure heart and an infectious smile that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Jimmy worked at Stagg High School’s cafeteria, where he took great pride in his responsibilities—filling the soda machines and cleaning tables between lunches. He especially enjoyed the free meal he received each day and the opportunity to be around people, which brought him so much happiness.
He was recognized for his dedication and spirit, earning a bowling award for “Most Gutter Balls,” a reflection of his sense of humor and love for participation, as well as recognition for 10 years of dedicated service.
Jimmy truly loved meeting people. He could often be seen riding along the sidewalk in his wheelchair, stopping to visit and chat with neighbors. He never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t yet made. His warmth extended to everyone, especially babies and animals, whom he adored. Dogs, cats, and all creatures brought him great joy.
Jimmy will be remembered for his loving nature, his genuine kindness, and his ability to make others feel seen and valued. He was a true people person who loved everyone he encountered. His happiness, gentle spirit, and unforgettable smile will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving parents, Edward and Donna Sumner, who adored him deeply, as well as a large circle of family, friends, and neighbors who cherished him and will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 South Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453, US, on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm with a Chapel Service at 2:00 pm. Interment is private.
