Gertrude Swanson

Gertrude J. Swanson (nee Johnson), 94, passed away on August 17, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Richard K. Swanson. Loving mother of Nancy (David) Moe and Kenneth (Gwen) Swanson. Cherished grandmother of Eric (Sharon) Moe, Allison Moe, and Genna (Stephen) Monticello. Proud great-grandmother of Abigail Moe, Thomas Moe, Nicholas Monticello and Gianna Monticello. Fond aunt and friend to many. She is preceded in death by her parents: Ida and Albert Johnson; her siblings: Charles, Evelyn, Marie, Allen and Robert. Memorial Service at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Hippach Chapel, 17W201 Roosevelt Rd., Oakbrook Terrace, on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Gert’s family is thankful for the life and for the love she shared with them. Family always came first in her affection, concern, and care. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a beautiful smile, contagious laugh, and twinkling brown eyes. She was a Cubs fan and proudly cheered them on to their 2016 World Series Championship. Gertrude was a resident of the Wyndemere Senior Living Campus for 12 years. She became an avid knitter at the age of 83. Once she began knitting, her hands were always busy knitting hats, scarves, and baby blankets for family and friends. Nothing made her happier than when she received a picture of a little one wearing a hat or wrapped in one of her blankets.
