To Becky, and all the loved ones of Gretchen Phillips Tyrrell,
thank you for sharing Gretchen's beautiful obituary. The family can
take much comfort that she had a life well lived and is enjoying her greatly
deserved reward now.  She and husband, Milton, together, started a great
family, which will be a beautiful legacy for many generations to come.

Gretchen Tyrrell, 81, was welcomed into Heaven on January 11, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  She was born in Sault Ste. Marie’s War Memorial Hospital, on August 26, 1939, the oldest of three children born to Rosemary (Schenk) Phillips and Woodrow Jackson Phillips. She married Milton Wesley Tyrrell on September 26, 1958 in Conklin, NY. They lived for many years in Glen Ellyn, IL before retiring to Indiana in 2006.  Milt preceded her in death, as did her daughter, Susan Phillippe of Indiana. Gretchen lived in the Alliance Health and Rehabilitation Center in DeLand, FL, since November 2019.    

Being a military brat she attended 12 different schools through 12th grade. Her senior year, she attended Bob Jones Academy, where earned her high school diploma. Upon graduation she studied at Miami Bible College for one year earning her certificate in secretarial studies. (Her father was also studying at MBC that year preparing for the ministry.)

Gretchen served as a librarian at Dublin Christian Academy and later as Milt’s secretary at the GARBC. She loved to sing and was a member of their church choir for many years. She also enjoyed singing and playing the piano at home.

Gretchen and Milton had four children: the late Susan (Robert) Phillippe of Goshen, IN; Timothy Tyrrell of DeLand, FL; Rebecca (Robert) Fletcher of West Chicago, IL; and Lois Tyrrell of Bartlett, IL. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and her younger brothers, Wendell Phillips of DeLand, FL, and C. David Phillips (Judy) of Anchorage, AK.


To the Tyrrell family:  I am Cola Harris, and so sorry to hear of the passing of Gretchen.  I tried to contact her by phone and email several times, when the Lord brought her to mind. We have kept  up with each other, for years, since our Emmanuel Baptist,  in Hinsdale years. 

Please accept my sincere sympathy.  I will be praying for your comfort and strength now, and in the days to come.
