Kenneth R. Jacobs, 84, of Downers Grove, IL for 70 years, formerly of Brooksville, FL for 15 years, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, in Redlands, CA. He was born on March 16, 1929, to the late Walter and Beulah Jacobs of Downers Grove. Ken was a lifelong resident of Downers Grove, where he graduated from high school in 1947 and joined the fire department volunteers in 1953. Ken worked as a general service representative for Commonwealth Edison for 36 years before retiring with his wife Shirley to Brooksville, FL. The couple spent part of each year in California to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Ken is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley (Smith) Jacobs; sister, Carolyn Hoffman and her family; and four children, Don, Barbara, Jane and Richard, as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation Friday, March 14, at Hippach Chapel, Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace, from 2 to 3 p.m. Services to follow.
