Ronald William Booth, 81, of Oakhurst passed away peacefully in his home and surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, August 6, 2020.
Born in Donnelly, Idaho on July 21, 1939 he was the son of the late Russell and Lois Booth. He was raised in Petaluma, CA and graduated from Petaluma High School in 1957. After high school, Ron joined the Army and served for seven years as a military police officer at Fort Ord, CA. After serving in the Army, Ron joined the National Guard and served until 1964. Ron then began his 31 year career with Pacific Gas & Electric where he started as a lineman in Salinas, Ca and retired as a troubleman in Fresno, CA. Ron loved his job; his colleagues joked with him regularly that he made them look bad by working too hard.
Ron had many wonderful hobbies he enjoyed including building and flying model airplanes with his children, traveling the country and camping with his family, traveling much of Europe with his wife Barbara, and studying the genealogy of his ancestors. In his later years Ron attended Mountain Christian Center with his wife Barbara and also enjoyed Cowboy services and Ragtime events at Oakhurst Lutheran Church. His love of music was always apparent and extended to bluegrass as well as the music of Ireland and the Scottish Highlands.
Ron and his wife Barbara began building their retirement home in Oakhurst, Ca in 1994. He took joy in building the house that he would spend the rest of his years appreciating. He spent many hours enjoying the quiet of the mountains where he loved to watch the birds and look out at the beauty of the forest. He often mentioned he was content to spend the rest of his days at his home in Oakhurst, and he was fortunate to have done so.
Ron is survived by his wife Barbara Booth of Oakhurst; his daughter Michelle (Roy) Nightengale of Modesto; his son Robert (Lin Hui) Booth of Monterey; his son Channing (Brenda) Booth of Escondido; his son Cameron (Melissa) Booth of Oakhurst; his son Corey Booth of Oakhurst; his grandson Josh (Jennifer) Nightengale of Yokosuka, Japan; his granddaughter April (Kyle) Griffiths of West Sacramento; his grandsons Max and Alex Booth of Escondido; his grandchildren Aurora, Eien, Ella Mae, and Alice Booth of Oakhurst, his great grandchildren Jude and Kiera Nightengale of Yokosuka, Japan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Russell and Lois Booth, Ron was predeceased in death by his brother and sister-in-law Donald and Darlene Booth.
Visitation will be held August 17, 2020 at 5-8pm at Sierra Chapel.
Due to Covid-19 a celebration of life service will take place at a later date.
