She attended and graduated at McClymonds High School in Oakland, CA.
She married her former spouse, Ronald Freeman, in 1983 and they had their son, Ronald Freeman, II. They parted ways in 1987 and maintained a good relationship.
Valjean started her career in 1987 with Pacific Bell, which was purchased by SBC Communications, then purchased by AT&T, where she retired with more than 30 years of service. Valjean also worked for the U.S. Internal Revenue Service after her retirement.
Valjean is survived by her son - Ronald Freeman, II, daughter-in-law – Jennifer Freeman, grandchildren – Ronald Freeman, III, Eddie Freeman, sisters – Eartha Washington, Lana Bell, Oddrease Richardson, and brothers – Billie Ashley, Myron Bell, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Valjean was preceded in death by her mother - Corene Bell, father – Willie Bell, and brothers – Willie Bell, Jr. & Lee Don Bell.
