

John J. DeFranceso passed away on April 13, 2026, at the age of 102. Born January 29, 1924, in Waterbury, Connecticut, John was the son of Charles & Fannie DeFrancesco. John’s long life was marked by steadfast service, quiet strength, and enduring dedication to family and work.
During World War II, John served as a B17 bomber pilot and was held as a prisoner of war. He later remained connected to those bonds of service as a member of the USAF Bomber Group #384.
Following the war, John built a respected career as a mechanical engineer with the Waterbury Manufacturing Company, where he worked for many years. Upon retiring, John and his family moved to Ocala, Florida in 1982. While living in Ocala, John continued his working life with Townley Manufacturing Co for many years.
John is survived by his daughter, Sharon Sumner of Madison, FL; four grandchildren, Jeremy Ladd of Lawrenceville, GA, Jeffery Ladd of Ocala, FL, Frances DeFrancesco of Jacksonville, FL, and Christina DeFrancesco of Ocala, FL; four great grandchildren, Dawson, Parker, Sawyer, and Ayla; and three step grandchildren, Lani, Kaylee, and Chase. John is also survived by his sister-in-law Nina DeFrancesco of Oakville, CT, and niece Kendra and nephew Eddy, also of Oakville, CT.
