

Florida to Henry and Viola Demps. She was the eldest daughter of five
children. Naomi attended Euclid High School and a few years later
moved to New York City. It was in New York City that she met
the love of her life, Alva Davidson, affectionately known as Josh. She
was introduced to Josh by her best friend at the time, Iva Mae Brooks.
(Josh was Iva’s brother). Naomi and Josh were married in 1956. They
were married for 45 years and their love and devotion to each other was
deep. Josh passed away in 2001. After they married, Naomi settled
with Josh in Manhattan and they also lived in the Bronx. They lived in
New York for 34 years and raised four children. The couple relocated to
Ocala, Florida in 1989 where Josh’s sister Evline lived. Naomi always
had a loving relationship with her sister-in-law Evline Williams and
brother- in-law Edgerton Williams (George). The mutual devotion
and support among one another continued after Josh’s passing.
She truly valued education and attended Manhattan Community
College. Naomi worked as an Educational Assistant, specializing in
early childhood, for the New York City Board of Education for 24
years. She was a member of the United Federation of Teachers.
Naomi studied classical opera in high school and her favorite
pastimes were traveling, shopping, and dancing to calypso music. She
enjoyed world travel by airplane and cruise ship with Josh or other
family members. Her destinations included Japan, Liberia, Kenya,
Spain, and Mexico, as well as many of the Caribbean islands.
As an active church member, Naomi was quite fond of her church
family at St. Stephens Episcopal Church where she was a member of
the Episcopal Church Women. When she moved to Florida, she and
Josh became members of a S.A.F. E, a neighborhood watch
organization. She was also a member of the Democratic Club.
Naomi was preceded in death by her brother Charles Henry. Naomi
leaves behind to cherish her memory four children: Debbie Davidson-
Gibbs, Patricia Davidson Mayers, Wayne Davidson, Reginald
Davidson; siblings: Anne L. Sutton, Delano Jerome (DJ) Demps, and
Robert James Demps; son-in-law Chris Gibbs, daughter-in-law, Alison
Davidson; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
cousins, and a host of family and friends.
