

Norma L. Coker was born in Raritan Township, NJ to Hans and Margit Albrektsen on March 7, 1926. She moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1936 with her family and graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1944. She was employed at the Broward National Bank as a Bookkeeper and then as a Teller until her retirement in 1954 to become a full time mother and homemaker. Her marriage to Thomas M. Coker, Jr. in 1949 produced Terri Ann in 1952, Cynthia Lee in 1954 and Thomas Nielsen in 1958. She was very supportive to Tom in his achievements as a college graduate, an attorney as a Broward County Solicitor and as a 17th District Court Judge. They were part time residents in Ocala since 1965 and after Tom’s retirement moved full time in 1997 where Tom died in 1999. Besides her children, Terri and Bruce Monroe, Cynthia Coker and Thomas and Janet Coker, she also left grandchildren, Ian McNiff, Christopher Monroe, Tina and Bill Nichols, Brandon and Lara Harker, Brianna Harker and T.J. Lavelle, Neil Coker, Aaron Coker and great-grandchildren, Cassidy Harker and Trent Nichols. She also leaves her siblings, Doris and Don Sparks of California, Marilyn Layton of Merritt Island, FL and Arnold and Mary Albrektsen of Ocala and their families.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5740 S. Pine Ave., Ocala, FL 34480. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to service time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Florida Elks Children’s Hospital.
