It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Alexander Simerson on April 6, 2026, at the age of 69. Tom departed this world peacefully at a hospice, having bravely faced and fought cancer with unmatched courage and dignity.
Born on December 1, 1956, Tom was a beacon of strength, love, and unwavering devotion. A life partner to Donna Windal for 27 cherished years, Tom's life was defined by his boundless compassion and selflessness, particularly evident in his dedication to Donna, nurturing and supporting her through life’s many challenges.
Tom was a steady presence in the lives of Donna’s children — Stacy (Patrick) Laroche, Jessica Windal and her partner Marco Quintero, and William Windal, Jr. While each relationship had its own path, the family deeply appreciated the unwavering love and care he showed Donna throughout their many years together. In her most difficult moments, especially during her illness, Tom never left her side. His dedication to her well being is what will be remembered most.
Tom found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid billiards player, spending countless hours at the pool table where he felt most at ease. He also loved fishing, finding peace in the stillness of the water and the quiet moments it offered. These hobbies brought him comfort, connection, and many cherished memories.
In accordance with Tom’s wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his memory. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Marion County Hospice for their exceptional care and support during Tom’s final days. Their kindness and dedication provided comfort and solace to Tom and his family, for which they are eternally thankful.
As we bid farewell to Tom, we take solace in knowing that his spirit lives on in the love and memories he leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tom’s memory to a cancer research foundation of your choice, helping to continue the fight that he so bravely waged.
Rest in peace, dear Tom. Your love, courage, and kindness will forever be etched in the hearts of those you leave behind.
