She was born in Newark, NJ and lived in West Long Branch, NJ and in Monmouth Beach, NJ for many years before moving to Ocean Township 6 years ago.
Barbara spent close to 40 years as an educator in New Jersey. She had a lifelong passion for teaching. Barbara made a difference in the lives of many children who she helped, and who benefited from her love of teaching and her creative and motivational teaching style.
Throughout her career she often received letters of appreciation from students, parents, and student teachers expressing their thanks for the impact she had made on their lives. She taught at Long Branch Public Schools for the past 35 years, and she also mentored student teachers at Monmouth University, West Long Branch.
She was a member of Temple Beth Miriam, Elberon, NJ. She was very active in the Stay Smart program at Monmouth University, which helps hospitalized children continue their studies.
Above her dedication to teaching was her love for her devoted and caring husband Arthur, who she was married to for over 50 years; her cherished sons Robert, and his wife Robin; and David, and his wife Yafitte. Her love for her husband, two children, four grandchildren, and friends will live on throughout their lives. She cherished her grandchildren, Noa, Avi, Eden, and Rachel. She will also be missed by her nephew Larry, his wife Tiffany, and their son, Vincent. She loved her many friends who loved her dearly, and who will miss her always.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, for research towards medullary thyroid cancer.
Services will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 2130 Route 35, Ocean Twp., NJ, with internment to follow at Temple Beth Miriam Cemetery, 1700 West Bangs Avenue, Neptune, NJ.
Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean Township, is in charge of the arrangements.
