Fredrica (Fredie) Sue Fliegler, 77, of Ocean Township, passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2025, following a routine medical procedure. She was the heart and soul of her family, known for her strength, perseverance, and sense of humor.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Fredie spent her early years in Ocean Township before her family later moved to Willingboro. She graduated from Asbury Park High School, where her lifelong curiosity, kindness, and sense of community began to flourish. She went on to build a home with her loving husband, Marty, in Shark River Hills, before eventually moving their family back to Ocean Township.
A courageous cancer survivor, Fredie fought the disease for many years and had been living without treatments for the past year. She was known for her spunky spirit, her quick wit, and the way she made every place she went feel like a community. She was a devoted mother, a loving wife and sister, a caring aunt, and a loyal friend.
She spent many years working as an administrator for the Social Security Administration and later as a secretary within the Ocean Township School System, where she loved being part of the school community.
Her happiest routines included daily mahjong games, knitting and crochet projects (which she lovingly gifted to many), and her regular stops at places like QuickChek, Dunkin’, Wendy’s, and the gym. She brought light, positivity, and laughter wherever she went, brightening the days of everyone around her.
She was also involved with her synagogue’s Sisterhood and participated in Hadassah over the years.
Above all else, Fredie cherished her family. She shared a deeply close bond with her daughter, Beth, and treasured her visits to Brooklyn and their time together. She is survived by her loving husband, (Marty) Martin Fliegler, of 53 years, with whom she shared a lifetime of care and devotion; her daughter, Beth Fliegler, and son-in-law, Dave Jules; her sister, Harriet Wood; and her niece and nephew, Colleen Wood and Timothy Wood. She is also remembered lovingly by extended family, lifelong friends, and neighbors who felt like family.
Funeral services will be held at Bloomfield Cooper in Ocean Township, NJ, on December 15, 2025, at 11 am, followed by interment at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ. Shiva will be observed at the family home following the funeral, continuing through Friday.
In honor of Fredie’s love of knitting and crochet, the family invites anyone who has a blanket or handmade item she created to bring it to the service. These will be displayed during the ceremony and returned afterward.
