

George Stanley Alpert, 95 passed away peacefully and naturally surrounded by family on January 10, 2026. George grew up in Newark NJ, son of Sam and Faye Alpert. He is predeceased by brother Lawrence Alpert and sister Evelyne Hersch. George married his beloved wife Joan in 1962 and started their life together in Livingston NJ where they resided over 40 plus years. Together they raised two sons, George Alpert Jr and Jack Alpert. George took much delight in watching both sons play sports and never missed a game. Besides his wife and sons, he is survived by four grandchildren, Samantha, Lucas, Lauren and Kate Alpert and two daughters in law, Lori and Donna Alpert.
George ran a successful business as owner of multiple liquor stores throughout NJ and NY. In 1987, he was the toast of town by winning a lawsuit that went directly to the Supreme Court allowing alcohol to be sold at cost in all New York liquor stores. George also took much pride in serving his country in the army during the Korean War.
Those who knew George knew how much he loved his family and loved his life at Bradley Beach. Over the years, George was lucky enough to meet many friends of all ages who later became family. He was an avid gardener who grew seasonal vegetables and always was happy to share his crop with friends and neighbors. He became a known fixture on his front porch where everyone stopped daily to say hello. George lived a simple life and was happiest watching all sports, reading, gardening and most importantly being surrounded by his family and friends.
Services will be held on January 13th at 11:00am at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapel.
