Jay Michael “Mike” Wagenheim died October 11, 2022 after a long battle with Dementia. He was 72. Born in Atlantic City to Joseph and Bette Wagenheim on October 20, 1949, he attended Atlantic City High School where he was the Viking team mascot at sporting events. He later attended Monmouth College, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1972. He lived in Maryland for a few years after college and moved his family to Ocean Township in 1979, where he spent the rest of his life. He was a member of Temple Beth Miriam in Elberon.
Mike spent most of his career as a Regional Sales Manager for Fax Express in Asbury Park. He also worked for the Monmouth University Athletics Department for more than 20 years as both a linesman for the football program and as an usher during basketball games. As a volunteer, Mike was a dedicated coach to hundreds of Ocean Township Little Leaguers for more than a decade.
Mike was a beloved and very present husband and father whose family remembers him “always being home for dinner” and “never missing a game.” Second only to his family, Mike’s loyalty lied with the Philadelphia Eagles, of whom he was a lifelong fan, holding season tickets and regularly attending games. He frequently went back to his Atlantic City hometown to walk the boardwalk with his wife, play slots at the Trop and hit his all-time favorite sub shop, The White House, for a Special with extra cheese (hot peppers on the side).
Mike is survived by Janie (Née Duchin), his devoted wife of more than 51 years; his two loving sons Jason (and his partner, Ali) and Chad (and his wife, Rochelle); his loving grandchildren Max, Sydney and Mason; and, his brothers Joel and Jerold. He is predeceased by his sister Judy and three shelties who he raised and loved dearly, Boodles, Bartles and Bailey.
Funeral services will be held October 12th at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 2130 Highway 35, Ocean Township, NJ 07712. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in Mike’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
