

She was born August 27, 1932, in Clarksville, Texas to Johnny and Mable Owens Douglas. The family moved to Littlefield, Texas where she lived for many years. Later, she made Odessa, Texas, her home and married Mr. Tommy Christian. She reared her niece, Joyce Ann Hendrix, as her very own daughter.
Mrs. Christian worked for the Ector County Independent School District rendering 22 years of head custodial service for several campuses until she retired. "Aunt Doe," as she was affectionately called by her family, will be remembered for her wonderful spirit for life always encouraging young people in her plain spoken and to the point manner. Doretha was "one in a million" and she will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Eddie Owens, Leroy Douglas and Willie James Douglas; six sisters: Katherine Holmes, Mae Eva Douglas, Ruth Wooley, Emma Jean Smith, Charlene James and Eula B. James.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Mr. Tommy Clyde Christian; niece, Joyce Ann Hendrix of Odessa, TX; stepdaughters: Connie Battee. of Burnsville, MN and Vicki Modkins of San Angelo, Texas; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many special nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
There will be a visitation from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, 1615 East Murphy, Odessa, TX with Reverend Tom Collins of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, eulogist and Reverend Donald Flinn, officiant. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
