

Antonio (Tony) M. Gonzalez was born March 5, 1929, in Hamlin, Texas to Antonio Gonzalez and Lucia Arzola Gonzalez. He passed on to eternal life on Holy Thursday, April 17, 2025. He graduated from Hamlin High School in 1949. He married Ruth Medrano on July 29, 1950. They were married for 68 years until she passed away in 2019. He lived a full life of 96 years. He was an entrepreneur and self-employed businessman for most of his life.
He enjoyed traveling with Ruth and others. They toured extensively in the United States in a motorhome. They traveled to Europe, the Holy Land, Rome, Brazil, Peru, Hawaii, and China.
He was ordained in the first class of deacons for the Diocese of San Angelo in July 1976 and he served at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for 42 years until he was 90 years old. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, and the Lions Club. He lived his Cursillo in the 1960s in Pecos, Texas.
He is survived by his children Patricia Gonzales, Margie Kent (Randy), Deacon Edward (Maria) Gonzalez and 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Ruth and his son Tony Gonzalez and all his siblings: Filiberto, Ben, Frank, Cecilia, Dolores, Guillermo, Eugene and Clara.
He has taken good care of his children and grandchildren over the years. He has always been there to assist where a need arises. He has given over and above to his parish of Holy Redeemer in his involvement in many parish projects. He helped many people with their annulments, marriage preparations, and baptized thousands of babies.
We want to thank all the health professionals at Medical Center Hospital for their loving care. In lieu of flowers you may donate to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The viewing is Wednesday, April 23 from 3 to 7 pm with the rosary at 7. The Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 24 at 10:00 with Bishop Michael Sis presiding.
A visitation for Antonio will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2633 Conover Ave, Odessa, Texas 79763. A rosary will occur Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 7:00 PM, at Holy Redeemer. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 6801 E Business 20, Odessa, TX 79762.
