Carrie Mae (Owen) Spears

Carrie was born in Rotan, Texas on March 21, 1933. Shortly thereafter the Owen family moved to Odessa. Carrie married John B. Spears (who preceded her in death) on April 8 1948. Along with being a wife, mother, and sister, Carrie worked for the Ector County ISD for many years, starting as a bus driver and moving into management as Assistant Transportation Director. Carrie moved to Birmingham, Alabama with her daughter in 2003.

Carrie’s pleasures in life were helping other people by cooking and making some craft for them. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and friends have many items she lovingly made for them.

Carrie is survived by her children: Linda Holloway and Buddy McCarty of Birmingham, Alabama, and John L. Spears and wife Cheryl of San Antonio; her grandchildren Owen Gary Holloway and wife Marnie of Dacula, Georgia, and John T. Spears and wife Lindsey of San Antonio; her precious great granddaughter and grandsons Taylor Spears, Gavin Spears, Tanner Holloway and Graysen Spears. Carrie is also survived by her sister Jean Welch of Birmingham, Alabama and her brothers Billy Jack Owen of Odessa, Texas and Dean Owen of Tacoma, Washington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside celebration of her life will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Westover Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas.
