Nell grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from Miller High School in 1954. She received her music education degree from Texas State University and a master’s degree in English from UTPB. She taught in the Ector County ISD for 25 years, retiring as department chair of the Odessa High English Department.
She was an active member of Highland United Methodist Church for over 50 years and served as treasurer and was on the Board of Trustees. She played the violin in the Midland-Odessa Symphony for many years and was a member of the Odessa Master Gardener chapter in her retirement.
Her retirement years were filled with many pleasant activities and adventures. She and her husband enjoyed their travels to Europe, the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico. They especially enjoyed their Elder Hostel trips. Nell and her husband also played many of the West Texas golf courses and when they tired they could relax at their lake cabin on Lake Nasworthy in San Angelo.
Nell is survived by her children, Carl Robert Carlson Jr. of Hurst, Texas and Catherine L. Carlson of Plano, Texas. She also is survived by many nephews and nieces.
We would like to thank Focused Care of Crane and Home Hospice for caring for Nell.
A memorial service will be held at Highland Methodist Church in Odessa, Tx with Jon Hendricks officiating along with the pastor, Adrianne Coleman. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made in Nell’s honor to Highland United Methodist Church.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.frankwwilson.com for the Carlson family.
