This is not good-bye but see you later, for to live in the hearts of those you love is to never die. On February 15th , 2014 Joe Brooks was greeted at the gates of heaven by his Lord and Savior and his loved ones that went before him. Joe was a man that loved his family; he showed this by always putting them first. He loved his wife for over 60 years and he would tell her this each day. He once told her no one would ever love her as much as he did. When you heard the name Joe it was almost always followed by Gaye, for they were rarely apart. She was his first and only love. He loved his three boys with all his heart setting the example of just how a man should walk, with strength and integrity and always putting his family first. They will always remember the lessons he taught. Granddad was the name his grandkids used; he never let them leave without making sure they had money in their pockets and love in their hearts. Although he was the little brother he always made sure his big sister was taken care of. He loved his daughters in law they were like the daughters he never had. Joe loved his church family, he loved going to Sunday church to hear the message and to visit with all his friends. Granddad was the best cook, when called saying he was cooking you could bet we all showed up. He would always tease us if it was not good he would give us our money back. (No money was ever returned). Joe loved to visit pawn shops; you could guarantee he would always come home with the best deals ever. Hunting was another one of Joe’s passions every Thanksgiving for the past 44 years you would find Joe at Sierra Blanca deer hunting. This was a yearly event that took weeks to prepare for. If you ever went on this trip I am sure you would say it changed your life, many friendships were made and what happened at deer camp stayed at deer camp. (No women allowed) If you knew Joe then you knew he was a man that did it his way. He loved working and being the boss. He owned his own business B-Five Leasing for over 40 years. This is where he met many people and changed their lives. He was always willing to help those in need and his wisdom was always free. If you ever met Joe, I am sure your life was changed. He had many friends, at every turning of his life and they were good friends, friends that always stood by him. So rather you called him sweetheart, dad, granddad, or friend he left a place in your heart that only he could fill. Even though he’s not with us here on earth let’s think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched…. For nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much. Joe is preceded in death by his son Gary Brooks. Joe was survived by his wife Gaye Brooks, his two son’s Bryan Brooks and wife Lisa, and Marty Brooks and wife Laura. His five grandkids, Cody and Hannah Brooks, Whitney Kweskin, Wesley and Mikelle Farris. Two great grandchildren John Brooks and Dallas Williams. As well as his sister Wyvone Davis. Pallbearers will be Johnny Alford, Jim Roberts, Paul Ivy, Wesley Farris, Larry Nunez, Lupe Gonzales and Matt Newcomb. Family visitation will be held Tuesday February 18th from 6-8 p.m. at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home. Services will be Wednesday the 19th at 2:00p.m. at Life Change Church on 10th and Texas, in Odessa Texas.
