

Johnnie Lee Houser Sr. was born on April 6, 1927 to Elizabeth and George Houser Sr. at Kress, Texas. He passed away on May 20, 2014 after a battle with pneumonia. He was 87 years old. He was a fifty year member of First Christian Church.
He graduated from Levelland High School in 1944. He attended West Texas State at Canyon on basketball scholarship until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in the South Pacific on the U. S.S. Boxer, an aircraft carrier. When World War II was over he returned home and attended college at Texas Tech, graduating in 1949 with a B.S. in business administration. Shortly after graduation, he married his college sweetheart, Joyce Boren. Of this union three children were born. Karla Houser Bird (deceased) Johnny Houser, Jr., and Mackey Houser, (deceased).
He was a realtor in Odessa for many years and continued dealing in commercial property until the end. He owned Houser Auto Sales and loved the fast paced business.
He started playing golf again in 2003 after about a twenty year lay off.
He thoroughly enjoyed the game playing at 8:00A.M. at least two mornings a week and at the age of 82 shot his age. He was an avid fisherman with his biggest bass being 11lbs. 3oz.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Houser Sr. and Elizabeth Houser, brother, George Houser Jr. children, Karla Houser Bird and Mackey Houser.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Houser, son, Johnny Houser Jr. and wife Tonya, grandchildren, Luke Bird, Bront Bird, Cody Houser, and Amanda Houser, son in law, Lee Royce Bird and wife Donna, daughter in law Laura Houser, sister, Imogene Gray, sister in law, Vada Duncan, brother in law Dayton Boren and wife Virginia, nieces, Susan Hillburn and husband Sam, Susan Janes and husband Ralph, Gayla Heberling and husband Mike, Vickie Kelley and husband Troy, Annette Burkman and husband Glenn, nephew, Lee Sanders and wife Bonnie.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at First Christian Church, Odessa, 601 N. Lee with Rev. Norm Stolpe presiding.
Services are entrusted with Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
