

Mr. Gene Chandler, age 83, passed away on December 27, 2015. Mr. Chandler was born August 2, 1932 in Sanderson, Texas. He was the son of Clarence Allen Chandler and Lillie Langford Chandler. He graduated from Sanderson High School and attended Texas A&M University and Sul Ross University. Mr. Chandler served in the United States Air Force and served the community as a fireman in the Odessa Fire Department. Mr. Chandler married his high school sweetheart Barbara Jean Clark March 2, 1954. They had 3 children: Debra Chandler James, Leslie Gene Chandler II and Dwayne Clark Chandler. Mr. Chandler retired from Haliburton in 1991, after 23 years of service. He then became an independent contractor who worked in the oil fields for 47 years. Mr. Chandler was a faithful servant for 43 years at Parkview Church of Christ in Odessa, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Chandler attended and enjoyed Odessa High School football games for over 40 years. He was known as the “man under the hat”. A true West Texas Cowboy.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Clark Chandler, his daughter, Debra Chandler James of Athens, Alabama, his son, Leslie Gene Chandler II of Dallas, Texas, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one sister, Mary Ellen Kimball, one brother, Glynn Chandler, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Clark Chandler.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 31st, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas.
A memorial Service will be held Friday, January 1st, 2015 at 10 a.m.at Parkview Church of Christ in Odessa, Texas.
Interment follows in Sanderson, Texas.
