On May 7, 2014, the light of my life dimmed. Mark Alan Lampman was born in El Paso, TX, on January 27, 1967. He was gifted to Dortha and Don Lampman of Odessa. He was raised here, fell in love and had two beautiful children here. Mark graduated from Permian High School in 1985, and loved the school so much, that he was destined to return. He received his primary education, a Bachelor’s of Art in Political Science, at UTPB in 1990. He returned to his alma mater in 1997 as a government teacher, where he proceeded to pour blood, sweat and tears into his lectures. He received a Master’s of Arts, Education-Educational Leadership, in 2009, also at UTPB. He met his soul mate, the other half of his heart, in 1998. He married Daphne Sullivan on November 6, 1999, and never looked back. They shared love and laughs and were inseparable from their first date. They found love in the ridiculous, and humor in the painful. They have two wonderful daughters, Kelly and Piper, the lights of their parents’ lives. Mark’s legacy is found everywhere, in the eyes of his children, the lives of his students, and the friendships he forged. From being knighted The God Of Thunder (a nickname that endured to the last) by an entire graduating class, to introducing students to the History of Music and investigating JFK, he left his lessons and thirst for knowledge in the minds of every person that crossed his path.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Don Lampman.
He is survived by his mother, Dortha Lampman of Odessa; his wife, Daphne, and both daughters, Kelly and Piper, of Odessa; brother, Steve Lampman and wife Lisa, of San Antonio; niece, Amber Austermann and husband Nathan and great-nephew Blake of Odessa; niece Stephanie, of San Antonio; in-laws Don and Bonnie Sullivan, of Odessa; brother-in-law, Wesley Sullivan, wife Shannon and their sons, Blake and Weston, of Odessa; sister-in-law Leshia Williamson and her daughters, Sydnie and Reveille, of Odessa; best friends Richard Ontiveroz and Shawn Mahan and their families; and so many more family members and friends than could ever be listed on paper.
Visitation will be held at Frank W. Wilson, Friday, May 16, 2014, 6pm-8pm.
A memorial service will be held at Crossroads Fellowship, Saturday, May 17, at 11am. Please wear as much Permian gear as you would like, represent the school that meant so much to Mark.
In lieu of flowers, a special account has been set up for Mark’s family at West Texas Educator’s Credit Union for donations.
All arrangements are being handled by Frank W. Wilson in Odessa.
