Nettie Athalea Smith

Athalea was born in Memphis, TX on November 15, 1924 to William Marvin Bryant and Eva Pearl Warnecke. She graduated from Abernathy High School in May, 1942 and married Clarence Edward “Jack” Smith on September 11, 1943 in San Diego, CA.

She worked as an associate for J.C. Penny for 30 years and retired at the age of 79. Athalea enjoyed cooking, crocheting, traveling and spending time with her family.

She was actively involved with her church, Vine Baptist, where she had been a member since 1956.

Athalea is survived by her sons, Dennis Smith of Odessa and Neil Smith of Dallas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Trevor Smith, Brandon Pontremoli, Amy Salazar, Jack Smith and Kendall Castles, as well as 16 great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl Bryant; husband, Jack; sons, Jackie, Bill and Randy; and her grandchildren, Sean and Rhiannon; and her 8 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 2 PM at Vine Baptist Church followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Brandon Pontremoli, Shannon Daily, J.D. Ham, Shannon Pettit, Chad Jones, Triston Jones, Daniel Kendrick, Manny Salazar and Jakob Salazar will serve as pallbearers.
