

Randall Allen Shafer, 70, of Odessa, Texas, passed away at home after his courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 23, 1954, in Long Beach, California. Randall’s parents moved to Temple, Texas and later to Odessa. Randall graduated from Permian High School in 1973.
Randall was an accomplished musician, singer and song writer, having taught himself to play guitar beginning at the age of 10. He performed as a professional musician from the age of 17, composed the music for several musicals including “Eye of the Tiger – A Rock Opera”, and he sang and performed in its debut show in July 2005 at the Globe of the Southwest in Odessa.
Mr. Shafer, along with three (3) other gentlemen, founded Penatek Foundry in 1982. Because of his metallurgy knowledge, Randall began to collaborate with several attorneys as an expert in the field of metals.
Mr. Shafer then became a licensed Private Investigator and worked with many of the lawyers in the Odessa and Midland area. He was an active member in the community having served as the President of the Board at the Permian Playhouse, Vice President of the Grandview Lions Club, CASA, several Permian Playhouse productions and a deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Randall was beloved by many, and he will be missed dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Nancy Shafer; his brother Jim Shafer; and his brother-in-law William Roy Barrow.
Randall is survived by his longtime beloved girlfriend and partner, Cynthia L. Clack, their daughter, Emily Wu and her husband John Gelson of Tampa, Florida, grandson Roy Shaver, granddaughter Megan Skeuse and her husband Sean and their children Sage and Teagan, granddaughter Shannon Gelson Donahue, grandson Sean Gelson; brother Dr. David Shafer and his wife Debbie of Whitehouse, Texas; sister Cheryl Ann Semon and her husband Jack of Edmond, Oklahoma; sisters Virginia Barrow and Debby Shafer of Odessa; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Odessa.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers, friends and loved ones who helped Randall including those at Hospice of Odessa, Express Nursing and Home Instead.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Westminster Food Pantry or the charity of your choice.
