

Rowena G. Porter passed away on May 10, 2011, at her daughter’s home in Odessa, Texas surrounded by family & friends. She has now won her battle with brain cancer and has gone to receive her healing with our precious Lord and Savior. From the time she was diagnosed Rowena never gave into the disease she always said “it is in God’s hands and His timing.” She was born September 6, 1935 in Cisco, Texas to Roy and Irene Moad. She married Donald Porter on June 4, 1960. He preceded her in death in August 2001. Rowena worked for Home Savings for 3 years. She then went to work for First Savings & Loan in 1960 where she was head of the computer department. Later she became Vice President of the Escrow Department. After 27 years of service, she retired from First Savings in January 1987.
Rowena loved spending time with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her only grandson, Cory. Celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and friends was especially important to her. Rowena also loved spending time with the ladies in her bible study group. She remained faithful to the Lord throughout her life.
Rowena is survived by her daughter Cindi Wilkerson and her husband David and grandson Cory; sister, Dyann Rose and brother-in-law, Jimmy; nephew Brad Rose & his son, Brayden Stonewall; and niece, Janene Groening and her husband Mark and their children, Joshua and Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald and parents Roy and Irene Moad.

Pastor David Newton will conduct services at Crossroads Fellowship, 6901 East Highway 191, Odessa, Texas at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2011. Burial will be on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 1 p.m. in Blanket, Texas.
