

Sarah White was born October 21, 1933 in Bee County, TX and passed away on May 18, 2025 in Odessa, TX at the age of 91 years old. She was the 9th of 10 children born to Edgar and Lurena Ashcraft White.
She moved with her family to Tynan, TX in 1936. She attended schools in Tynan, Skidmore and graduating high school in Mathis, TX in 1951. After graduation she went to work at Beeville Hospital, beginning as an aid and later receiving her LVN license. She worked at the hospital from June 1951 to 1953, where she went to Corpus Christi to take a business course her father paid for before her graduation. Not receiving work after the business course, she went back to work at the hospital from October 1954 to the fall of 1961.
While she remained in Beeville, she met the love of her life, Jimmy Ray White. They were married on October 30, 1955 in Sinton, TX and were married for 54 years at the time of his passing. They were married at the home of her uncle, Frank Phillips, who was a Baptist minister. While living in Beeville, Sarah and Jimmy had their first born son, Ronald Lee in November 1959. In the fall of 1961, their second son John Alan was born.
In 1965 the family moved from Victoria to Edna. In August 1970 they moved to Ft. Stockton where they lived for 15 years. At the time Jimmy worked for Houston Pipeline Company. While in Ft. Stockton Sarah worked in doctor’s offices. She worked for Dayle Lancaster for 12 years until Sarah and Jimmy moved to Sugarland where they resided for 5 years. From Sugarland they moved back to Ft. Stockton for a year and made their last move back to Victoria in 1991. Sarah moved to Odessa in May of 2013 to be near Ronnie and Sandy.
Sarah was involved in many social activities. She was a member of Eastern Star that she joined while living in Sugarland. She also did volunteer work at her church in Sugarland as well as DeTar North hospital in Victoria. After moving to Odessa, she eventually joined Crescent Park Baptist Church. She also enjoyed going to a couple of churches during the week for lunch and fellowship. Throughout the years she loved watching baseball, especially the Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves and the Texas Rangers. She also loved the Dallas Mavericks and became a big fan of Luka Doncic.
Sarah lived on her own until the spring of 2020 when she moved to Orchard Park in the assisted living area. In June of 2023 she then moved to The Courtyard Assisted Living and Memory Care where she remained until her passing.
Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; parents; grandparents; sisters, Theresa Gay and husband Virgil, Faye Tiemann and husband Charlie, Mary Helen “Babe” Marler and husband Virgil and Edith Whitney and husband Roy; brothers, Monroe who tragically drowned at 18, Frederick Howell who died as an infant, Claude and his wife Louise, Billy Joe, and Carl and his wife Dorothy; nephew, Don Jackson, who was raised in the home with Sarah and considered as a brother. She is also preceded by two other nephews who were special to her, Tommy Marler and great nephew David Lee Marler; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Troy and Catherine Maxell; sisters-in-law, Gwen Thomson and husband John and Mary Ann Sparks; brother-in-law, A.E. Maxwell; nephews, Michael Thomson and Jerry Johnson; as well as her constant companion and guard dog, Mitzi.
Sarah is survived by her sons and their spouses Ronnie and Sandy White of Odessa, John and Cindy White of Louisville, CO; granddaughter, Kristen White; step-grandson, Gary Johnson of Odessa; step-great grandson, Landon Johnson; sister-in-law, Peggy White. She is also survived by Jimmy’s two sisters, Bobbie Carroll and Carol Whitener and many nephews and nieces as well as 3 longtime friends who all went to school in Tynan: Verna Laechelin, Ruby Warren and Anita Gonzales.
Visitation will be held at Frank Wilson Funeral Home in Odessa on May 23, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in Victoria on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 10:00 am at Grace Memorial Chapel with Brother Tim Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials can be given to Northside Baptist Church in Victoria, Crescent Park Baptist Church in Odessa, or to the charity of your choice.
