Vivian Annette Proffitt

Vivian Annette Proffitt, 87, of Odessa went to be with her Savior on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Orchard Park Assisted Living & Memory Care. She was born December 31, 1933, to Robert Henry and Gladys Rogge in Sweetwater, Texas. She became a Christian at the age of ten. Upon graduating from Newman High School in Sweetwater in 1951, Vivian attended Hardin-Simmons University. She met her future husband, Garland Proffitt, at the first HSU campus mixer that Fall. She graduated from Hardin-Simmons in 1955. Garland and Vivian married on August 21, 1955, at First Baptist Church in Sweetwater and moved to Odessa to begin their teaching careers. Vivian later continued her education by receiving her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 1977. She was an amazing teacher who worked tirelessly for 32 years to pour into her students. Her passion was to teach young children to read; therefore, she spent 29 years teaching first grade at Pease Elementary. She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Odessa for nearly 63 years where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.

Vivian is survived by her three daughters: Kenna Hurley of Odessa; Jana Farley and her husband, Darrin, of Midland; and Kara Forbess and her husband, Scott, of Odessa. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Danae Adams and her husband, Kyle, of Helotes, Texas; Adam Farley and his wife, Juliana, of Rosenburg, Texas; Brian Farley and his wife, Christine, of Midland; Chad Farley of Garland, Texas; Amy Farley of Midland; Daniel Forbess and his wife, Nicole, of Odessa; and Brianne Forbess Wynne and her husband, Hunter of Odessa. Vivian also had the pleasure of being a great-grandmother to Brighton and Everest Farley; and Adaley Adams.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Garland W. Proffitt; her two sisters, Lois Rogge and Mildred Rogge; and her grandson, Jordan Robert Forbess.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Byron McWilliams officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
