Alan M. Rubenstein, of North Hudson Avenue, Oklahoma City, died on December 11 at the Northwest Nursing Center. He was 86 years old. Alan was born June 11, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA. His parents were Charles and Sophia Rubenstein. He received a BA in History from the University of Pittsburgh and then served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946, with an honorable discharge. A credit manager for the Silver Collection Service for 49 years, Alan was devoted to his job and was well-liked and highly respected by his colleagues. He spent his career mostly in Oklahoma City, but also spent time in Tulsa and Wichita. Alan was known for his kind and gentle soul and for his dedication to his extended family. His nieces and nephews recall that he attended every Bar and Bat Mitzvah, wedding, and funeral of his many close relatives and their children over a period of many years, almost always in cities far away from his home. At happy events, he was sure to be among the first on the dance floor. He eagerly followed the accomplishments of his nieces and nephews and their children. Alan also liked to be active and continued his jogging workouts into his 80s. In 2001, his family was thrilled to honor Alan at a 75th birthday celebration in—at his request—Las Vegas. In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his sister, Eugenie Starr, and his brother, Rabbi Byron T. Rubenstein. He is survived by nieces and nephews in California, Oregon, Maryland, New York, New Hampshire, and Minnesota, and by cousins, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews around the country. A funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held on Monday, December 17, at 1 p.m., at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City. Burial will take place at a later date in Norwalk, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Alan’s memory to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice.
