As a child Amy’s family became refugees during WWII and relocated to Okinawa. After graduating from high school Yomiko began working at Kadena Air Force base where she met her husband, Frederic Howell. The couple had one son, Bill. Yomiko became a United States citizen on September 18, 1972 and changed her name to Amy. As a military family they lived in Oregon, California, Colorado and Okinawa, with the last duty station being Oklahoma where they remained. She will be remembered as a warm and caring person who was always concerned about the welfare of others. She loved visiting with people and sharing stories. She was a member of St. Christopher’s Church in Midwest City.
Amy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Asahi Sakumoto.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Fred of Oklahoma City; one son, Bill and his wife Dorothy of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Jillian Howell of Overland Park, Kansas and Marissa Flores and her husband Leo of Oklahoma City and 1 great-grandchild Eli Flores of Oklahoma City and siblings Fumiko, Kimiko, Kiyoko, Isamu and Ritsuko all of Okinawa
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Bill Eisenhour NE Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, OK.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2020 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 800 Midwest Blvd., Midwest City, OK 73110.
