

Auburn Henderson Chance was born in Greenville, Butler County, AL, October 30, 1921, and passed away October 30, 2013. Preceding him in death was his father, Jesse B. Chance, mother Sarah F. (Boutwell) Chance, two brothers, Jimmy and Milton Chance, and two sisters, Verla Woodruff and Annie Sides Powell, son Bobbie Joe Chance, grandson Jay B. Schuyler.
Auburn enlisted in World War II in 1940 and entered the 2nd Armored Division at Ft. Benning, GA., He served with the 753rd Tank Btn., Ft. Polk, LA.; Ft. Hood, TX.; the 750th Tank Btn. Ft. Knox, Ky.; and Ft. Jackson, SC; He was attached to the 104th Infantry Div. after going overseas. He fought through several battles including the “Battle Of The Bulge” from Normandy, France to Berlin, Germany. His company also was involved in liberating the concentration camps in Nordhousen, Germany. Auburn served his Country well and was Honorably discharged 11/1945 and was awarded the American Theater Campaign medal; American Defense service medal; Good Conduct and Victory medals; 3 bronze service stars.
Returning home to Alabama he made his way to a small coal mining town in Kentucky where he met Doris Smith and in March 1946 they were married and moved to Chattanooga, TN. He went to work for Independent Life and Accident Ins. Co. In 1961 he transferred to Oklahoma City, OK and retired as manager in 1987.
Auburn was also a member of The Church of God of Prophecy and served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher for many years.
Auburn leaves a wife of 67 years Doris M. (Smith) Chance of the home; two daughters, Brenda Barker of Moore, OK; Sara Smith & husband Michael of Port Allen, LA; grandson Matthew S. Berry & wife Markie of Edmond OK; three great granddaughters, Erika & Alexas Bryan of Edmond, OK; Kinley Berry of Edmond OK; two great grandsons, Liam & Marek Berry of Edmond, OK; one brother JB Chance of Greenville AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, & friends.
Auburn was a very out-going person who never met a stranger, and his magnetic personality won him many friends and will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. Interment will be in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, 7800 N.W. Expressway following service.
