Trent and I got to visit Dale & Kathy during the NCAA Women's College World Series in 2010. This was one of the BEST trips ever! Dale & Kathy welcomed us into their home and showed the type of hospitality and love they are famous for. We will always treasure that memory. Our lives are better for having known Dale. What a beautiful sweet man.

I count Dale as having been a dear, dear friend. He had a sense of humor that could leave me laughing long after a joke or his quick wit. Dale was service-oriented. If you needed him, he was there. Very importantly, he loved his family. How do I know? He showed it. And Kathy? She was the love of Dale's life. How do I know? He not only showed it, he told me many, many times.

I have only know Dale for less than four years. He was one of the most caring and helpful gentlemen I had ever known. I am so honored to have me him and become a friend of his.

To his family, I am sure you have many wonderful memories. God Bless you all.

I had the awesome opportunity to spend many days with Dale Shumway. We serve together in the Choctaw Ward's Young men's program. During the summer time we would take the Boy Scout Troop on massive horseback pack trip outings. We went to the Wininuchi Wilderness in Colorado and also the Pecos wilderness in New Mexico. We would leave very early on Monday morning and arrived home very late on Saturday night to make sure we had plenty of time with the boys high in the mountains. We ventured to many lakes above 10,000 feet and always ate what fish we caught. I had both horses and mules and Dale always had a trailer load of horses and RL McGee always threw in an extra one or two to round out the posse. We also took the Scout troop on many weekend campouts. Many times they would be on Dale's land near his fish pond. Other times we would be in the Kiamichies. It was enjoyed by everyone from the young men to the leaders. I also had the opportunity to ski with Dale's family in Utah. Dale always kept his family at the center of his life and worked with his children as they raised their sheep for 4-H projects. I will never forget his great sense of humor and his contagious laugh. This great man will be greatly missed. I'm in my seventies now and when I pass through the Veil I'll be sure and look him up. He was a great friend and mentor. He set a great example for all of us to follow. He knew how to work hard and he new how to play hard. He knew and loved our Savior Jesus Christ. Julie and I pass on our sincere condolences to the family. We also pass on our testimony to Kathy and his awesome children that through or Savior's atoning sacrifice on our behalf that he is in a better place and we will indeed be with him once again.
