David John Simpson, 80, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK. David was born on October 26, 1939 in the Jefferson township in Iowa to parents Harry & Mary (Zeller) Simpson.
David attended Oelwein schools in Iowa and later attended Oklahoma City Community College in Oklahoma City, OK. David worked for the United States Marine Corp. and the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic. David later retired from the United States Postal Service where he was both a mail carrier and mail sorter.
David's hobbies included playing video games, watching movies and football, gardening, traveling, and exploring nature. David was very fond of wildlife and watching his favorite football teams. David enjoyed hiking in the Grand Canyon, visiting Gatlinburg, TN and Branson, MO. David loved exploring and visiting places all across America. He visited almost all 50 states and appreciated the beauty that each state offers. David was a devout Christian and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
David is preceded in death by his parents Harry & Mary Simpson; daughter, Elisabeth Bombe; sisters, Bernice Damon, Betty Zummak, and Beverly Kish.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Simpson who he married on September 16, 2017; step-daughter, Melissa L. Hatfield & partner Claude N. Como; step-daughter, Melinda C. Wessler & husband Edward; son, Roy Simpson; son, Mike Simpson; son, Dathan & wife Sandy Simpson; son, Brian & wife Lorena Simpson; grandchildren, Mark S. Burley, Elizabeth Leeann Wessler, Krista May Wessler, Blaney Ann Burley, Gracie Wessler, Rachel Smith, Lisa Simpson, Dathan Simpson II, Jason Simpson, Joshua Simpson, Breanna Simpson, and Gabriella MCurdy; great-grandchild, Adalynn Smith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Bill Eisenhour NE funeral home, Oklahoma City, OK.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the Arlington Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Midwest City, OK with interment to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City, OK.
