Surrounded by the love of her daughters, Dorothy Jean Jarnigan joined her Bill on December 21, 2015, in God’s loving arms. A lifelong resident of Oklahoma City, Dorothy was born April 18, 1927. She and Bill met in the band at Capitol Hill High School and were married on February 3, 1945. Janice and Joy came along soon after, but Bill and Dorothy waited a decade for Jyl and Jayne to complete their family.
After being a mother and wife for many years, Dorothy taught Kindergarten Sunday School and became certified by the Methodist Church to train others to teach. She then joined with her husband to create the first computerized real estate land indexing system. After retiring from the real estate/title business she opened kidfitters, a children’s clothing store, which she ran until she was 71. She then returned to teaching Sunday School and volunteered at the Oklahoma Blood Institute.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, L. Banks and Rhoda Richmond, her sister Betty Jo Hicks and Dorothy’s husband Nathan S.(Bill) Jarnigan, Jr. She leaves her legacy of love through her children Janice J. Groth and husband Fred, of Denver, CO; Joy J. Scheller and husband Joe, of Yukon, OK; Jyl J. Jarnigan of Denver, CO; and Jayne J. Robertson and husband Tom of Oklahoma City, OK; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church with Interment to follow at El Reno Cemetery.
