Edgar Louis “E.L.” Plumbtree, Jr. passed away November 10, 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born on May 7, 1927 to Pearl and Edgar Plumbtree in Hollister, Oklahoma. He joined and served honorably in the United States Army. After discharge, he became a car mechanic at a dealership in Frederick, Oklahoma for several years. In about 1956, he was hired by General Motors and moved to Oklahoma City and became the zone service manager for all the Oldsmobile dealers in his region. He held that job continuously until his retirement.
E.L. married Kathryn Jaunenne Plumbtree on July 24, 1949. They remained married until his passing. They enjoyed lake activities all their lives. Weekends were spent at lakes camping, skiing, and fishing with their family in tow. After his retirement from GM, they moved full time to Lake Texoma before health concerns brought them back to Oklahoma City. E.L. and Jaunenne hosted numerous parties at the lake and everyone enjoyed the hospitality and food they shared at such gatherings.
Although his job was overseeing warranty work that mechanics would do at the Oldsmobile dealerships, he never quit servicing cars himself constantly for neighbors and friends and anyone who had a car that needed servicing. There was virtually always an open hood of someone’s car being serviced in our driveway when he was home. And his skills didn’t end at repairing cars. He was a master handyman who could tackle successfully nearly any problem to put a product back into service, and he really enjoyed doing that kind of stuff. It wasn’t for monetary gain because he rarely got paid for it and I certainly never heard him ask anybody to pay for any help he would give them. He had quite a collection of used parts taken off of warranty vehicles from dealerships at his disposal in the attic that could still be used to get cars running at no cost to him or whoever he was helping out.
E.L. is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jaunenne; by his children, Steve, Vicki, and Jana; by his brother, Louis Plumbtree; by his grandchildren, Scott, Landon, Cody, Austin, Macy, Clay; and by his great grandchildren, Adelyn, Kathryn, and Bridget. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Oleta Plumbtree.
Graveside services will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, located at 8701 Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City [(405) 721-3182], on November 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
He touched the lives of so many and lived a long life to its fullest. He leaves behind so many friends and family that will miss him. The world was blessed by his time among us.
