At a young age Evelyn always loved being with her family. She helped her mother and older sister with their large garden and help watch over her younger brother. She enjoyed visits to Lawrence, KS (where her mother was from) to visit relatives. As she grew older, she continued that tradition by spending time with her sister, Martha, brother, Bill, sister-in-law, Trina and lifetime companion, Harvey. Evelyn always baked pumpkin pies and candied sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving and Christmas and she never forgot the black and green olives for brother, Bill! Evelyn enjoyed reading, collecting cookbooks and loving her various animals – especially cats. She liked to travel and visit craft shows with her sister. Evelyn was a loving sister to Martha when she became ill and saw to her needs until Martha passed in 2017.
After graduating from N.W. Classen High School in 1963, Evelyn started a career of secretarial work. She began an extensive career alongside Herman Meinders at AFS (American Floral Service) as his Executive Secretary. When AFS sold, she remained with Mr. Meinders to assist with his continuous business associations and interactions.
In the mid-80's, Evelyn met her lifelong companion Harvey Humphrey and they spent 30+ beautiful years together. They loved going to Maui every year to watch the whales migrate. They made regional trips around to other travel destinations and enjoyed going out to eat. They were great company to each other.
Evelyn is proceeded in death by her father, Robert Jay Garrett; mother, Margaret Louise Garrett, and sister, Martha Garrett. She is survived by her brother, William “Bill” Geer and wife, Trina of Oklahoma City, OK and life companion, Harvey Humphrey of Yukon, OK.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162. A graveside service in honor of Evelyn's life is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
