

Guqueta Lee Bruza went to her eternal home with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 13, 1937, in Okemah, OK to John and Selma Austin. Guqueta grew up in Sparks, OK and moved to Meeker, OK in the fourth grade. Guqueta received her BA in Education from Central State University. Within her first year of teaching third Grade in OKC, she married her high school friend and love of her life, Jim Bruza, on Nov. 6, 1959 beginning a joyous union of 54 years which blessed them with 5 children: three boys, Jeff, Jim and John and two girls, Jackie and Jennifer. She sacrificed her public teaching career and dedicated her life to training her children up in the ways of the Lord and cultivating a nurturing home filled with unconditional, sacrificial love.
Guqueta was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church and helped establish their satellite ministry now known as Spring Creek Baptist Church. Her church home for the past 15 years was Heritage Baptist Church. Guqueta cherished the teaching of truth, Bible study and fellowship with family and friends. She was passionate about her Savior and lived faithfully reflecting Christ Jesus’ identity in all she did. Guqueta is survived by her husband, of the home in OKC,OK; five children, Jeff Bruza of Odessa, TX; Jim and Margret Bruza of Edmond, OK; John Bruza of Philadelphia, PA; Jackie and Chris Buckley of Plano, TX; Jennifer and Paul Harper of McKinney, TX and five grandsons: Josh Bruza, Luke and Brett Harper, Colin and Gavin Buckley; one brother, Bob Austin of Brownsville, TX; two sisters-in-law, Joye Henderson of Meeker, OK and Sue Guillory of Newhall, CA and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Heritage Baptist Church, 14317 N. Council Rd., OKC, OK with a brief burial service at 2:30 pm at Fairview Cemetery, 1400 N Center Ave, Shawnee, OK, (405)878-1529. Public viewing will be held Wednesday, August 15th from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper.
