Pat and his family moved to Edmond, OK, in 1942. He attended Edmond Public Schools, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and graduated from Edmond High School in 1956. He attended Central State College graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in science and chemistry. He was recognized by the University of Central Oklahoma as a Distinguished Alumni in 1974 and received the university’s Broncho Award in 1990. Pat attended the University of Oklahoma Medical School where he was selected for Alpha Omega Alpha. He spent his internship year at the University of Michigan before serving two years in the U.S. Army as a physician. He returned to Oklahoma City and completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at OU Medical Center.
Pat began his private practice in 1970 as a board certified orthopedic surgeon at McBride Clinic, also serving on the OU Medical School faculty as a clinical professor for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. A surgeon for 36 years, Pat also served as president of McBride Clinic and chief of staff at Bone and Joint Hospital before his retirement in 2006.
Pat is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Carole Jo (Kerley); children: Tracy L. Evans, John Patrick (Packy) Evans, Jr., Kristin Evans Linholm, and husband, Nick C. Linholm; grandchildren: Jenna, Jackson and Joshua Linholm, and John Patrick Evans III; brother, Lawrence B. Evans, and wife, Beverley Evans of Cambridge, MA; as well as numerous friends, colleagues, and patients.
Pat was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City since 1964 where he served as a deacon, elder, and trustee. He was inducted into the Edmond Public School Foundation Hall of Fame in 2017. Pat enjoyed travel, especially to Lake Tenkiller and Crested Butte, Colorado,
as well as golfing, skiing, reading, woodworking, and spending time with friends and family. “Boppa” was very involved in the lives of his four grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to see them participate in their activities.
A Memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N. Shartel, on Wednesday, July 8th, at 1:00 pm. Social distancing will be honored and a mask required.
