James Ellis Blackwell, age 18, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Tulsa on Sunday, December 1, 2019. James Blackwell was born on January 8, 2001 and became a permanent member of the Willis family in 2018. His big sister Whitney loved him from the day he was born. They were separated when they were both young but she never stopped looking for him. When she found him again she joyfully resumed her role as his big protective sister. James loved it when his family visited with him. James was a bright light who brought joy to those who met him. Lydia Willis and James meet in 2009 and became the best of friends almost immediately after their first meeting.
James enjoyed most of his days by playing on his Ipad watching and listening to his favorite song “The Wonkey Donkey” and skyping with his friends he met during his stays at the J.D. McCarty Center. James had the most contagious smile and laugh. He quickly made friends and became like a family at the center. James could make friends with anyone because of his great sense of humor and laugh.
James loved things in order and was constantly trying to be more organized with his belongings. James was always trying to brighten even some of the darkest days with his smile and laugh. James became best friends with Lydia Willis and Isela Plascenia. He loved keeping in touch with them regularly through skype daily (sometimes multiple times a day). James, like most boys his age, loved going to eat pizza, ice cream, soda, and all other junk food.
Most importantly James had a deep love for the people close to him and cherished all the time they would spend together reading books, singing silly songs and dancing. James put a light in everyone he came in contact with. James' body may be gone but he will forever live through all the lives he touched.
