James (Jim) Cameron Harrison, Jr. was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on January 8, 1929, to James Cameron and Dorothy Lee (Bowling) Harrison. He passed away on June 18, 2025 at the age of 96, in Mansfield, Texas.
Jim grew up on the family farm in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, he attended college at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater. He cut his college career short to enlist in the National Guard. He served in the Army in Korea as a Tank Leader, where he was awarded the Bronze Service Star. He returned to Stillwater after completing his military service and continued his studies in agriculture and animal husbandry at Oklahoma A&M. His blood ran orange, and he loved his Oklahoma State Cowboys!
As a young man, Jim lived in Muleshoe, Texas, where he had his first farm. He later moved to Oklahoma City and worked for Versatile out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. For years, he traveled throughout the United States selling the Versatile line of industrial farming equipment. Jim was in no hurry to get married, and at age 40, he met Frances Tevis, a widow with two teenagers. Jim knew he had met the love of his life. Frances felt the same, and the two were married on April 30, 1971. Together, Jim and Frances made a wonderful, loving home for their children. Jim started Harrison Mfg., making farm equipment, and has a patent in his name for a plow he designed, called Big John. Next, he started Dare IV, his own outdoor power equipment business. Jim built up the business at Dare IV over the years, selling Toro lawn equipment (and was the highest volume dealer in the State of OK), Case International Garden tractors, ParCar golf carts, and fireplace inserts. When he retired and sold the business, he and Frances spent as much time as possible traveling with their RV all over the country. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church Oklahoma City, where he volunteered in their Community Clothing Bank. Following Frances’ death, Jim moved to Mansfield, Texas and finished his years at Watercrest at Mansfield, where he made many friends.
Jim lived a long and wonderful life. He made friends and touched lives wherever he went. He not only enjoyed life, but he also shared that joy with those around him. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Jim is preceded in death by his mother and father, Dorothy Lee Eades and James Cameron Harrison; his wife Frances Harrison; brothers Frank Eades and John Eades. He is survived by his son John Tevis and ex-wife Radie Burks of El Reno, Oklahoma, and ex-wife Nancy Tevis of Dallas, Texas; daughter Teri Harrison of Arlington, Texas; grandson Mike Tevis of Houston, Texas; granddaughter Cory Tevis of Tomball, Texas; great grandchildren Matthew and Kaitlyn Kempen of Tomball, Texas; sister Betty Heilman of Rush Springs, Oklahoma; brother Jerry Eades of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Wesley Burchfield and wife Mary of Minco, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Verlene Burchfield of The Colony, Oklahoma, and many nieces and nephews.
