James Robert Stalcup (“Rob”) was born on February 9, 1951, and passed away on October 10, 2020 following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Rest assured that he very much influenced an OU-Texas victory later that day. He ran the game into 4 overtimes so Texas would once again think they had a chance, and to ensure OU would hang half-a-hundred on ‘em. The persistence and resolve OU showed reflected Rob’s life in every way.
Nothing mattered more to Rob than his family. He loved his wife of 31 years, Carol, dearly. They did everything together both at home and when going out. Together they would go on adventures, be it an OU game or a trip to the lake, and enjoyed spending time with their friends as a couple. But most importantly, together they showed their kids and grandkids boundless love. Rob’s kids felt his love in every way and are eternally thankful for it and for him. His sacrifice, strength, and wise words are and will always be reminders of the man and dad he was. In regards to his grandkids, Rob simply lived for them. He had no greater love. He always looked forward to when the grandkids got to hang out, spend the night, or came in for a special visit from out of town. Time spent with Granddad was always special, and the memories of him will always hold the same meaning years from now as they do today.
Rob was an avid outdoorsman. If you took him fishing, all that meant was he was going to catch a bigger fish than you. It was usually outdoors where Rob enjoyed time with many of his close friends. He lived for weekends where he could get up to Grand Lake, get out on the golf course, and he especially loved to go hunting. Rob enjoyed countless hunting trips with family and friends around the state and country, including many trips to his favorite hunting spot, ‘The Ranch.’ It was during all of these outdoor adventures where Rob showed who he was. The strength of long friendships comes from loyalty, and Rob’s loyalty knew no bounds. His friends were equally loyal, and we are so thankful for all you meant to him.
Rob also cared deeply about his work, those he was lucky enough to work with, and his many patients. After graduating from John Marshall and the University of Oklahoma, he worked in the oil and gas business for many years. In mid-life, he made a bold decision to pursue becoming a Physician’s Assistant and never looked back. After working at the VA for many years, Rob worked at McBride Clinic for the remainder of his career. Thank you to all of his colleagues over the years, for touching his life and helping make work the rewarding endeavor it should be.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph and Betty Lee Stalcup, and his big brother Bill. Rob is survived by his wife, Carol; son J.R. Stalcup (Kim); daughter Katy Shapard (Nathan); son David Reimer (Robin); son Doug Vrooman (Kim Saylor); son David Vrooman (Ronee); brother Randy Stalcup (Nancy); sister Luann Crandall (Max); sister-in-law Vicki Stalcup; his wonderful grandkids, Anthony, Justin, Toree, Cooper, Brayden, Wyatt, London, Sumner, Bryen, Sutton, and Caleb; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to all of those that reached out and helped in love during the last weeks. That truly meant the world to Rob and the rest of his family. We rest knowing the wonderful life Rob led, and that he was surrounded by the love of so many people.
